After oxygen, water holds the most important position for survival of all the creatures in the world. Water is an inseparable part of human life, and is inevitable for the sustenance of life. Moreover, nobody in the world can impose their rights on natural resources like water. Hence, according to me, considering water as a lucrative source, and aiming to gain profit by selling water seems extremely unethical to me.
Personally, I agree with the idea of government banning the business of bottled water. Nowadays, every house has its own water supply line and adequate amount of water is supplied to each and every house, be it a village or a city. Therefore, a person will seek for bottled water only in the case of emergencies like disfunction of water supply line or non-availability of clean water. Further, people also need bottled water while travelling to a different city or region for vacation or are stuck at some unknown location. In such circumstances, people are left with no other choice, then buying a bottled water. Hence, taking advantage of the vulnerabilities and focusing on the lucrative aspect of water seems unethical.
As a remedy to it, government should install free drinking water tanks and jugs at the tourist spots and should also have some arrangements for potable water in case of emergency in a city. Private companies, who sell bottled water can also take steps of humanity to reduce the price of bottled water considering the situations of poor and needy people.
In conclusion, as an alternative to ban selling of bottled water, government should make arrangements for poor and needy people to get potable water during emergencies. Moreover, private companies can also reduce its prices as an act of kindness and humanity.
