It is undeniable that factories are manufacturing more products than before. In contemporary society the issue of consumerism has become increasingly prevalent. People use the items for short period of time and then throw them away. The possible reasons for this include the rhythm of life in the cities and changes in the fashion industry.
First of all, due to urbanisation, the high proportion of the population lives in cities, where they are able to get better job opportunities. In most cases, the working hours are from 9 am till 7 pm, and sometimes individuals might have to work for extra hours. Therefore, the vast majority of humans are extremely busy and purchase things without thinking wisely about the further use. To illustrate, they tend to buy processed food in special packaging, plastic cuttlery, dishes and other things that are for one use only, since they wish to save time.
Secondly, the trends are changing extremely fast nowadays. With the imrpovement of social media many influencers are advertising various products and setting the trends in their communities, and those who follow the lastest fashion tend to purchase everything that bloggers mention. That said, the preferences usually change within approximately half a year, and all of the bought things are thrown away afterwards.
As a result of this phenomenon there are lots of environmental problems. The non-recyclable waste has detrimental effect on ecology. If communities will conciously consume the products, there will be less waste, consequently, the air, water and soil pollution will decrease.
In conclusion, the communities should thoroughly think before getting new items, in order to decrease the negative impact on Earth.
