Multigenerational households are popular in the countries like Nepal and India. There is a culture of living all members of the family together from Grandparents to grandchildren. This culture is positive development with both advantages and disadvantages which will be described in this essay.
Cultures, beliefs, and traditions transform from generation to generation. What the parents practice the same thing followed by their children and go accordingly. So, it is good to live all family members together so that their tradition and culture alive throughout the decades. Besides, older people posses lots of experiences and knowledge which helps younger once learn many more things. If there is the senior citizens in a family then a family is blessed with strength. They had faced many probelms in their life while living so if any difficulties arrised then they solve with their experience. And, same thing they can teach to their child and grand child. Most importantly,, festival’s celebrations and other ceremonies will be very interesting in a multigenerational where responsibilites will be divided according to their age and position in their family like roles for puja will be given to grandparents, parents will serve and look after guests, children will take the responsibilties of entertainment etc. However,
Although there are all these advantages, living in a joint family is not free from disadvantages. It affects mainly to children. Childrens should be free to choose their education faculties, interested hobbies, religon etc but grandparents dont allow them to do anything they want. They tried to be barriers in the name of culture and family tradition. It is hard to change older people and all most all new generation are trendy and fashionable. They want to run with the changes of time and conflict arrised between the family members. Restriction leads to disrespect and over possessive leads to fraustration sometimes.
Besides, I beleive living in a multigenerational family is a positive development because it reflects the power of togetherness and also tied the bond between members.
