Advantage And Disadvantage

Band 6+: What are the advantages and disadvantages of using computers in educational areas?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Today, many educational institutions commonly use technology in their circumstances. While over-reliance on these devices may lead to some troubles, their proper utilization also ensures tremendous benefits. In this essay, I discuss both sides equally in the following paragraphs.

On the one hand, implementing electronic devices at educational places can pose many advantages for students who want to have deep knowledge in their own field. Firstly, the Utilization of such devices reduces excessive time spent searching in the past because a few decades ago, people, particularly, students, used to spend most of their time in the library just to find missing context for their academic projects. For example, there is no need for individuals to go to libraries due to access to all the data by phone. The second biggest advantage is that people can acquire knowledge easily with the help of technology. Creating visual lesson context for all, be it students or teachers, is the key to explaining more difficult themes in almost every field of education. For example, ChatGPT or other AI tools give a helping hand to determine everyone. Therefore, considering all the conveniences, the tools have changed the educational world positively for the reasons above.

On the other hand, as there are good sides, there are always side effects in terms of its usage. The first and foremost disadvantage is that ensuring a fair environment among the students might alter because of cheating. Not centralized system of these powerful tools can also provide students with privacy, which makes it almost impossible to check if the work is written by the student or not. As a result, owing to the habit of procrastinating or unsubmitted lessons, students may fail their final exams or even making them drop out of the place. Secondly, the use of technology in educational areas can lead to distraction from their assignments and lessons when they have full access to social media, games, and other online entertainment. It affects negatively their academic performance and leads to a decline in productivity. Additionally, excessive screen time can also lead to severe health issues related to severe eye strain, poor posture, and reduced physical activity.

In conclusion, incorporating computers in education has many positive sides, such as visual explanation and time-saving, however possible increases in plagiarism or cheating and posing distraction make the condition not completely advantageous at all.
