Body language is a significant form of communication that humans use it alongside verbal communication to express their thoughts. Every culture has some common and distinctive body actions that convey specific meanings depending on the culture. In addition, the degree of reliance on a specific form of body language varies around the globe. In my culture, there are three forms of body communication that are popular than others.
To begin with, hand gestures are the most famous type of body language among my people. They primary use it for greeting each other. For instance, they raise their hands to say “hi” but without using any word. Putting hand on the left breast, on the heart, when greeting someone with high social class is a form of revealing your esteem for that person. Besides, using hands are a prevalent means of expressing satisfaction or dissatisfaction. As in many other countries, a fist with a thumb up means “good.” However, placing hand in the head means “Not so impressive.”
Furthermore, head gestures also play a crucial role in conveying thoughts in my culture. The most common use of it is to show approval and disapproval. Nodding means “yes”, and shaking head from side to side once means “no.” Shaking head from side to side more than once makes the response stronger. Also, Individuals in my nation use head gestures to signal something. Leaning head in one direction in a fast movement is translated as “let’s go”, for example. It is clear that head gestures convey important messages.
In addition to the hand and head gestures, facial expressions are of high importance in my community. Faces tend to reveal feelings. Wide open eyes with raised eyebrows are interpreted as surprise. Raised eyebrows also conveys misunderstanding. You normally encounter this kind gesture if a person expects elaboration on what you have just said.
In summary, hand, head, and face motions are the three of the most noticeable variations of body langue in my culture. Some gestures are unique to my community. In contrast, some gestures are well known among other cultures.
