Egypt had been suffering from Nile floods for centuries until the discovery of hydro power, which resulted in the establishment of the High dam in Aswan governorate. Therefore, I will include in this essay what happened before this finding such as the waste of water and how this invention helps in making use of the available water resources in my country.
First and foremost, for centuries, the water of Nile flood was not consumed in a proper way as Egyptians used to irrigate their crops in summer only, which is the season of the flood. Moreover, there had been sometime of drought during the rest of the seasons due to the lack of water. For instance, summer crops were the fundamental stone for the economy since there was no irrigation for agriculture in other seasons because of the absence of Nile flood. Thus, the most proportion of water was wasted.
However, after the discovery of hydro power, the government decided to build a new dam to block the floods and make use of the water in generating electricity, in addition to irrigating farms in all times of the year. For example, Egypt not only save electricity for local society, but also can export it to other near countries. Furthermore, the establishing of the High dam could support in making a sustainable agriculture with a variety of crops. Consequently, egypt has significantly benefited from the existence of hydro power.
In conclusion, in the past, Egyptians did not no how to control the annual Nile floods and make use of water effectively; on the contrary, after the invention of hydro power energy, they could benefit from it by building a dam to preserve the water of the floods and provide a sustainable farming.
