There is a widespread view that school should prioritize STEM subjects over artistic disciplines such as music and visual arts.Although both sides present valid arguments, I am more inclined to support the view that science and technology education is ultimately more essential for developing high-level analytical skills and employability in the modern world than learning to draw or sing.
On the one hand, schools prioritize STEM disciplines mainly because the modern job market requires complex technical and mathematical skills. For instance, future careers in fields such as engineering, IT, and science offer significantly more well-paid occupations and financial stability for young graduates. Therefore, educational institutions give priority to these subjects to guarantee that undergraduates are well-prepared for the digital economy.
On the other hand, eliminating or reducing creative subjects can lead to a possible disadvantages, especially a lack of self-expression and emotional release. Futhermore, artistic fields allow children to take a break from complex subjects, effectively reducing academic stress and develop emotional thinking. While I understand the opposing perspective, I still hold that these artistic subjects can be provided as extracurricular hobbies and club activities outside of school hours.
Taking everything into consideration, removing art from educational programs may reduce or even elaminate opportunities for creative individuals, but I am conviced that concentrating on STEM education is more essential for students future career prospects and complex long-term professional success
