Two distinct souls were born into this world, both had been abandoned by their own family. Poverty, the fear of not having what to eat for tomorrow quickly consumed the kids minds. Due to the current economic crisis, many kids were left behind in the 1930’s. Their parents did not have strength to endure the view upon their own starving kids, they were unable to bear their pleas for food. The little girl, nameless, like an animal kept trying to survive by committing many little crimes : she stole many goods like bread, pieces of apples and even would go over dumpsters to find rest of food. The only place where she could attempt to call home, were the streets. The little boy, also nameless, by instinct just like the girl, committed minor crimes to survive. But he was more audacious, he had begun to steal more and eat more than he needed, in order to fill the void within his soul. He couldn’t use of his reason, he was never thought to do so. Like that, the only thing that he would, and he could do was to desperately attempt to fill the void in his being.
People would exchange, within the narrow alleys of Bogalusa, after another exhaustive work at the Great Southern Lumber, their opinions in the lesser known version of Bonnie and Clyde. Everyone had known them since they were, kids, how they survived for so long despite all the odd of their life. Even though they were orphans, they had no home, they never gave up on living for themselves. However, destiny decided to change that. The two nameless souls, had finally met one another while robing, by coincidence, the same convenience store. It took one glance to establish a strong connection between them, as if one of cupid’s arrow’s, struck them together as their glance met one another. The boy, as he caught the glimpse of the fragile rose in front of him, instantly recognized the common desperate glance to survive. As the officers were approaching, he took her hand and drove her away from the store to an escapade. They ran, desperately, away from that store, the girl never felt such feelings. Both of them, because of the thrill or the suspense of their first escapade, for the first time felt the desire to live because now they had a reason other than themselves. After that faithful encounter, the couple would commit minor crimes for the sake of their lives. They began to steal small convenience stores, then, they became more and more ambitious: from: luxury stores, to exquisite and expensive jewelry… to banks. The boy came back to the same place where the rose, he called her, was beaten up as a kid when she stole a bread, to take revenge for her and burned the building.
They have passed from little thieves when kids, to known thieves as adults. No one knew when the couple would stop and so, against all odds, the townspeople were sympathizing with them, even seeing them as heroes. The dancers were the name given by the people, Those two managed to bring more hope than anyone in that town could’ve ever done. They danced around the night, they stole more and more precious jewels, sapphires, rubies, ornaments that kings and queens would wear, dresses that reflected pure luxury with their texture and value. The locals became bewitched and deeply touched by them, the dancers defied the laws of the world. They made their own laws. They decided to survive, not to let any hardships take them down, they allowed life to give them a glimpse of happiness despite all. Those were the reasons for such admiration for the dancers, at least, the one that was commonly shared with the locals : “At least, even in the misery, they never shed a tear. They were always smiling and dancing… they had one another. Like us, they fought to survive, It may not have been the right way to do so, but who am I to judge?. They are a strength to be reckoned with”.
However, the amount of trouble that the dancers were causing, became a major issue for the police, an issue that needed to be eliminated and terminated from this word. Their behavior enlightened a fire within the people who lived at Bogalusa, more and more convenience stores were stolen, more and more confrontations arose between the inhabitants and the police. If life was the one that forged misery for those two souls, shall death bring them peace. If their love gave them a reason to live, shall love to be the reason behind their end. They were aware of it all, the danger, the risks of a life like theirs… but love drove them into this unforgettable path. How many times they’ve escaped of a deadly injury? How many times they saw their lives drifting by in the luxury stores? How many times they’ve stopped luring danger? They feared, they loved it at countless times, they knew that danger or the faint menace of the authorities wouldn’t stop them, only death could.
