Many countries have faced the problem of an increasing unemployment rate among highly qualified graduates. We will delve into possible reasons and solutions for the phenomeno.
Firstly, from my point of view, high graduation is overestimated nowadays. Dozens or even hundreds of thousands of people graduate from universities every year in the developed countries, gaining new degrees. Employers cannot process such a significant wave of future workers. The Ukrainian government and business, for instance, promoted high graduation as an equivalent to the success, but did not create enough workplaces for all the people who currently pursuing their degrees. The simplest solution could be government support for small and medium-sized businesses. For example, a tax decrease is likely to lead to a significant increase of small businesses which will give a job to numerous young people who currently cannot find their places after they finished university. To make it more specific, targeting highly qualified graduates, tax reduction could be done in specific areas, such as IT.
The second major problem is new technologies. Humanity is about to step into a new era, the era of the AI. The popularization of new technologies has made postgraduates compete with machines. Obviously, some people will lose their jobs. But it is possible to cope with the problem as well. Further promotion of new scientific and professional spheres could give opportunities to young and innovative people and, possibly, other postgraduates. New technologies do not only take somebody’s position but also create opportunities to others.
To conclude, I would say that an increase of unemployment rate among postgraduates is a significant problem of the modern society, but there are many logical solutions that could be implemented to tackle the issue.
