Experts believe that Internet has been one of the greatest boon to the world. Second, to the innovation of the wheel. Indeed the internet provides many benefits such as social networking, technological innovations, and health care developments etc. However, I feel that the access to information has increased to the tenth fold since the launch of internet. This ultimately has been the building block of all other developments.
Firstly, it is because of the reach of internet that any given information is accessible, within a palms reach to every individual globally. In short, it won’t be wrong to say that the world has become a much smaller place than it used to be. For example, a farmer’s son in a remote village in India can now have free access to the Washington news on a daily basis. He can now learn new farming techniques directly from the experts in MIT, rather than relying on the government to intervene.
However, one must also take this information with a pinch of salt. As it is not uncommon these days that almost half of such information available on web is non-factual. For example, sharing of personal views through social media platforms is also on a rise. Therefore, the owness lies on the individual to make proper fact checks before consumption of any information through internet.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that the rise of internet has tremendously accelerated the availability as well as the exchange of information in the world. However, each individual must remain aware of the fact that misleading sources or personal views on the web can often cause damage. Therefore, the exchange of such information remains a double edged sword, if not channelised effective, will end up causing more harm.
