Some people believe too much time is spending for teaching theoritical lessons to students in all ages nowadays, and this time should be reallocated towards practical skills. I agree with this statement that in-person experience is more valuable than theory, and therefore it needs more attention.
Although minimum amounts of knowledge is vital before moving to practice, schools are paying too much attention to this part of the learning process. Theoritical lesson are easy to forget, and often need a lot of care for retaining them in memory. Moreover, these kinds of information are easily achievable by a quick search. For instance, you can access to all newton rules by only two clicks whenever you need them on your phone. Additionally, these facts can be changed over time, as they are usually written by previous scientists from decades ago. Finally, these classes are generally boring for attendents, and could disapoint them from the whole learning concept.
On the other hand, much attention need to be paid to learning practical skills in today’s schools and universities. Technical lessons are sometimes more amusing for pupils, since engage them in the education process. They also have a greater impact on their memory through building muscle-neuron connection; a valuable goal that will never be acqired through books. Ultimately, they can apply the learned skills directly into thier future profession. That is why I believe the students’ schedule should contain many hands-on courses.
