In the present world, the proportion of people not falling into the generic category of health has exponentially increased due to varied reasons such as poor work-life balance, strange eating habits etc. One such cause, for continuing with bad health is scarce availability of facilities and infrastructure that supports sporting activities. This essay would discuss both the views and would state my personal viewpoint.
On one hand, development of infrastructure and readily available sports centres in and around a locality involving diverse indoor and outdoor activities would promote public health as minimum efforts are put in by individuals to access it. This would tremendously improve the condition of the health in people belonging to different age groups if the centre would be able to cater their requirements. For example, opening of a new children’s park with walking track and bars for performing body weight exercise including pull-up bars would cover the basic needs of different Demographics and Genders. Hence, establishment of dedicated areas to perform sports would render a positive results in terms of the well being of people in a community.
On the other hand, discipline and intention to keep oneself fit is an intrinsic trait that should be inculcated from young age. Despite presence of varied ways to be healthy, a large chunk of people prefer to be sedentary either due to their imbalance in work schedule or simply the lack of Will power. Furthermore, to state an example, my college has a well-equipped gym facility which is open to all students of the institute at free of cost all throughout the week but most of the days the gym would be empty with no one to make use of the equipment. This is a sign that mindset of the people matters over any external factors such as infrastructure development.
To conclude, though introduction of number of sports facilities may incur a sense of health among individuals in a society, a mental change to prioritize health would have a greater impact on the people. Hence, in my opinion, it is always better to start practicing health with the available resources.
