Public health is one of the major things that every government is obliged to look into. This is because only a healthy population can contribute to the development of a country. In order to attain this, some believe that opening sports facilities could be the best route one could take, while others strongly state that this single move would not suffice. The reasons why there could be a difference in opinion, along with my views are stated below.
All of us have grown up hearing that exercising is an important factor for maintaining one’s health. It can make a person fit both mentally and physically. Thus, this could have made a group inclined towards the opinion that sports facilities could be the best solution for boosting public health. With increased units of such amenities, sporting equipment would be made easily accessible to all. The public would not have to pay a hefty fee to a gym. As a result, several would inculcate sports as a hobby, ultimately achieving good effects on public health.
While all these could be true, some might state otherwise for the following reasons. Health is a very broad concept, which can be categorised into physical and mental health. In order to be physically healthy, it takes more than exercising. Maintaining a balanced diet, emphasising personal hygiene and having a good sleep are some things that determine physical health. Mental health is determined by the traits of a person and his experiences and it demands the same amount of time and energy as activities associated to physical wellbeing. Moreover, it is essential to spread awareness about looking after one’s health because only establishing facilities will not be effective if the public is unaware of its importance.
With both views being stated along with the reasons, I strongly believe that along with establishing many sporting facilities, several other measures are to be taken to achieve the best results. It is only when we pay attention to both physical and mental health equally, that we can achieve the best outcomes.
