Some people suggest that the optimal approach to solve traffic and transportation issue is to provoke commuters to move in the cities. However, it may result more traffic congestion and overload the public facilities in the city areas. I believe the better methods to solve traffic and transport problem are to change the current public transport service in the short time and construct more roads in the long run.
The effective methods to ease the current commuting problem are to increase fees and frequencies of public transports during peak hours, and decrease fees in other time. As the rising of living cost, many people complaining about the transport fees. If the fees are become more dynamic, people can choose their working schedule to suit their needs and avoid busy time slots. In addition, as the public transportation fees decrease, more people may shift from driving to work to buses or trains due to high cost of petrol. Which means there are less vehicles on the road and less traffic congestions. Furthermore, adding more buses and trains during the peak hours can take more passengers and relieve traffic pressure even further.
However, changing public services in transportations may only pause the problems in the short period of time. The traffic problems may be the consequences of lacking roads. In the long term, governments should pave more roads to adapt the needs of developing areas. As there are more job opportunities in the cities of developing areas, the population of region will rise gradually. Thus, the councils need to plan new roads and construct them to satisfy the future needs.
