Nowadays, an increasing number of adolescents are more qualified compared to the past. While some people believe that educational opportunities have led to this trend, some individuals believe that it stems from today’s volatile job markets. I am more aligned with the latter group’s perspective on this matter.
Some people argue that the new generation is more qualified due to the better educational opportunities. It is true that young people today benefit from greater accessibility and connectivity within educational settings, leading to well-rounded citizens. A 21st-century youth, for example, has more access to knowledgeable instructors, who are scattered across the globe. In addition, nowadays, we face a growing number of universities and colleges, encouraging students to pursue their post-secondary education to increase their earnings. This can lead to many well-prepared individuals. For example, in Iran, some universities have opened branches not only in all cities but also in smaller towns.
Despite these valid arguments, I am convinced that the evolving employment landscape is a more influential factor behind this trend. In contemporary society, where acquiring knowledge is key to improving career prospects, many people must be open to learning in order to secure better job opportunities. For example, many employers today consider a university degree as a minimum requirement. Furthermore, in the face of the rapid pace of technological change, every job seeker needs to master technical skills such as digital tools and artificial intelligence to remain employable. As a result, companies prefer candidates who have a solid understanding of these emerging technologies.
In conclusion, to thrive in today’s workforce, individuals must be adaptable and open to continuous learning, resulting in more qualified young people.
