Discussion

Band 7+: You've had a class discussion about living in the country. Your teacher has asked you to write an essay about the pros and cons of country life

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In our lives, we encounter various opportunities. Each opportunity is unique, but there is one that stands out as the most significant: our life itself. We have just one chance to live, to experience happiness, pain, and the unexpected, as well as to try a multitude of things. Life is beautiful, remarkable, and ethereal. Therefore, we should embrace life fully, filled with happiness, and pursue our dreams. After all, dreams can indeed come true.

Sadly, many people around the world have forgotten about their own lives and dreams. Most are so consumed by work that they barely have time to sleep. This raises the question: what happiness can we truly speak of? Many individuals end up feeling depressed as a result. Consequently, numerous people have chosen to leave the bustling metropolis or ordinary city life behind and move to the countryside. Country living offers a sense of relaxation and numerous advantages. It allows one to connect with nature, and larger homes and gardens provide more privacy. Additionally, there is less pollution, and the fresh air can be enjoyed at every moment. This lifestyle is perfect for those who seek tranquility and peace.

However, there are also drawbacks to consider, as everything has its two sides. Firstly, job opportunities in rural areas can be limited due to smaller populations and fewer workplaces. Secondly, finding a suitable home can take a long time, as there are often no hotels or apartments readily available. Thirdly, opportunities for personal development can be restricted; there may not be shopping malls, entertainment centers, or courses in English, modern dance, or various sports. In conclusion, I want to emphasize that country life may be ideal for those who are weary of the relentless pace of city living.

Nowadays, women as well as men work full time. Therefore, women and men should share household tasks equally. (e.g. cleaning and looking after children). To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In the 21st century, individuals are working full time in regions worldwide, whether they are men or women. Some people may consider that women are the individuals who have the responsibilities to do chores and men are the ones who are supposed to work full time for their family, while others may view that both […]

Wealthy nations should assist poorer countries with humanitarian relief during natural disasters. Do you agree or disagree?

Natural disasters can overwhelm the emergency systems of low-income countries within hours, leaving governments unable to provide sufficient food, shelter, medical care and rescue services. I strongly agree that wealthier nations should offer humanitarian assistance in such circumstances because they possess greater resources and because preventing avoidable suffering is a shared international responsibility. The most […]

Over-reliance on modern technology means that people are failing to learn, or are forgetting, many basic skills. To what extent is this true? Are people becoming so reliant on modern technology that they are no longer able to do some things without it? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Nowadays, there are many different sophisticated technologies that have become an integral part of our everyday life. People use technologies without realizing that they can do the same tasks by themselves. As a consequence, people sometimes rely on these technologies too much and forget how to do basic things. Technology makes life much easier because […]

More and more students choose to move to other countries to study their higher education. Do you think the advantages of this outweight its disadvantages?

Nowadays, many people move to other countries to pursue higher education. Although studying abroad can lead to homesickness and be costly to some extent, I believe that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Admittedly, moving abroad to study can have some drawbacks. One of the most common is the high cost of tuition fees. The more […]

Fewer people are reading books nowadays, especially among the younger generation. What are the causes of this trend? What solutions can you suggest to encourage more people to read?

Nowadays, individuals tend to read books less than in recent years. There are a couple of causes such as social media and streaming services and certain solutions including encouragement in schools and spending time on reading in family may be taken. One of the main causes of the problem is that young people choose to […]

There are two opposing views on whether university students should be free to choose their own subjects or whether they should only be allowed to study subjects that will be useful in the future, such as those related to science and technology. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. Write at least 250 words.

While someone believes that university students need to focus on studying science and technology subjects, others believe that choice of subjects should be optional. From my point of view, students should be free to decide regarding to their preferences or skills. On the one hand, there are some reasons why people believe that students should […]
