Band 6+: The use of mobile phones has increased dramatically in recent years. Do you think this trend has positive or negative effects?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is readily apparent that technology is not only moving at a break-neck speed but also getting more and more ubiquitous in recent years. Mobile phones are innovative, so they gradually become irreplaceable objects in human daily activities, utilized by most people. However, there are still a range of adverse consequences.

On the one hand, modern smartphones are a good alternative for a huge variety of daily manual work. Initially, there is a fact that smartphones nowadays are full of available resources, allowing people to approach diverse materials through their great networking. So that, instead of going to particular places such as the library, shopping stores,…, we just need to access the internet, where related applications are always willing to serve us with reading books and purchasing needed products online. Not only that, there are also some handy platforms on it, assisting people to conduct domestic long-distance calls without any charges. Thus, people can easily make video calls, and send messages immediately without going far. As beneficial features of mobile devices make work not time-consuming and more effective, they are attracting more and more people to buy them.

On the other hand, mobile phones bring into our life plenty of disappointing results. Firstly, excessively relying on mobile phones can lead to different unhealthy habits. Individuals often prefer doing something to unwind their minds after stressful working time. That is why, doing exercises is gradually replaced by playing video games or watching movies on a small screen. It also causes an increase in various diseases such as obesity or high blood pressure. Moreover, online conversations are becoming more prevalent than face-to-face communication, as a result, people tend to glue their eyes to their phone screens instead of interacting with one another. Therefore, cell phones could be one of the reasons for breaking down social relationships.

In short, mobile phones are considered a modern-day personal assistant since they cover almost all aspects of people’s lives with their useful patterns. Yet, it is also very pivotal for us to balance and manage phone usage time sensitively in order to prevent detrimental impacts.
