Using cultural traditions has been regarded as an alternative to enhance tourism. In this essay, the advantages and disadvantages of both places will be discussed.
There are multiple benefits associated with using tradition as a way to improve tourism. Firstly, it could enhance international relationships and culture exchange among countries. Developing tourism based on this way, a large number of travelers are prone to visit that country’s traditional practices. From that, several traditional signatures are proactively advertised and promoted their feature for travelers coming to comprehensive knowledge. On that basis, the international relationship and culture exchange between several countries will be pushed gradually by their governments. In addition, integrating cultural traditions into tourism promotions also lead to economic development in local areas. Coming to discover new countries, travelers are willing to experience the services or local specialities. So the local inhabitants here could gather a large amount of economic benefits for operating.
For example, visitors arrive in Japan to immerse themselves in its costumes – Kimono, its traditional dishes – Ramen as well as the Japanese’s cherry blossoms. Spreading out the cultural traditions from their experience, many other people are also interested in visiting Japan and gradually forming greater international relationships. Local economics are also rapidly improving from these traveling activities.
On the other hand, there are also several drawbacks for using culture to develop tourism. Environment pollution is the first negative issue needed to be mentioned. Some areas of attractions are full of trash and rubbish due to the weaknesses in both behavior of travelers and owners’ management. This issue not only seriously damages the historical atmosphere and areas of attractions, but also creates an alarm about the increasing global environment pollution. Besides, to adapt the needs of visitors with attractive incomes, some cultural traditions are transformed into wrong negative tendencies and decrease their original values. Such as, some people in temples or pagodas organize superstitious activities and force visitors to pay unreasonable money.
In conclusion, taking cultural traditions to extend tourism exerts both potential shortcomings such as environment pollution or wrong tendency of cultural transformation and positives including cultural exchange and economic improvement.Cultural traditions are increasingly used as a tool to develop tourism. Is this a positive or negative development?
