There are two different types of decision-making. The first implies relying on intuition. This method requires the use of the unconscious judgment or even instinctive decision making. The second is about making decisions using the logic and strategic schemes. Both of the methods are reliable in some ways, however they have some weaknesses.
On the one hand, buying into an intuition and trusting the gut feeling can be really helpful if people are experienced and their skills are tested by time. People, who rely on their intuition can easily read the room and make rapid judgments. The reason behind that is that their skills are honed by experience, they don’t hesitate to listen to their inner feelings, which have already been tested by time and experience. That is why their intuition and gut feeling never deceive them. As an example, famous NBA coach Steve Kerr chose new team-members in 2018, relying on his intuition about their skills and potential, because by that time he had been in the NBA for 30 years , since 1988! His players became champions of the NBA in 2018, which confirms his intuition skills, which were honed by experience. However, if a person has a lack of experience, making decisions based on intuition can jeopardise his or her future, because they will make significant decisions based on a whim, which will lead to unsuccessful consequences.
On the other hand, some people prefer using some strategic schemes and their logical thinking while making crucial decisions. These people can carefully consider all possible outcomes, analyse current conditions and chose the best ways to achieve their goals. They don’t think much about their intuition and feelings, because the main thing for them is to use their brain abilities at the highest level. Logical thinking implies complete distrust to intuition and inner feelings. For instance, continuing the NBA topic, there is a great coach – Michael Malone who used another strategy then Steve Kerr – he was watching his future team-members and thought about their brain capabilities and their physical abilities and in what way they will be useful in his game-combinations and strategies. His team won the NBA cup in 2020. Nevertheless, it is too complicated and hard to develop such awe-inspiring logical-thinking skills. It requires a lot of time and diligent efforts, which can be a great obstacle for some people.
In conclusion, there is a clash of ideas on this topic, both ways of decision-making – relying on your intuition and thinking logically, are possible and suitable in different situations. As for me, I generally prefer to use my intuition skills and previous experience when I make some critical decisions. However, there are people who prefer to use their logic to overcome some problems. The bottom line is people can choose any convenient type of decision-making, but they should be ready to face some obstacles such as lack of experience or difficulty developing thinking-skills.
