Positive And Negative

Band 7+: In many countries nowadays, consumers can go to a supermarket and buy food produced all over the world. Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Due to the advancement of aviation and manufacturing industries, consumers in different parts of the world can now buy ingredients across the globe in the supermarket. In my opinion, this is a positive development for the benefits of citizens.

A major advantage of global food marketing is to allow cultural exchange. This means that people can have a taste of what others eat on the other side of the world, which improves their understanding and appreciation upon different cultures. Ultimately, the action indirectly bolsters tourism and service industries because travellers are encouraged to visit places to discover a plethora of cuisines.

In addition, the practice is necessary to protect the rights of residents. It is clearly stated by the United Nations that humans possess free rights to choose what they want, so if their choices are being restrained, they cannot fully execute their basic properties, which is against the Human Rights Law.

Despite its obvious appeal, this marketing strategy may bring harm to the local economy. More workers may become unemployed as local companies fail to compete with international ones. Some institutions may even shut down and cease their business. These pose a heavy effect in the local manufacturing system.

In conclusion, it is undoubting that the provision of international items in supermarket increase cultural exchanges and protect the ethical rights of people, but its negative consequence on the local economy must not be neglected. Supermarkets should strive to maintain a balance between protecting local products and introducing international goods.
