The bar graph illustrates the percentage contributions of India’s GDP in three different sectors: agriculture, industry, and services, from 1960 to 2000.
Overall, agriculture contributed the highest percentage at the beginning of the period but finished with the lowest contribution by the end. In contrast, the services sector experienced a significant increase throughout the period. Meanwhile, the contribution of the industry sector rose steadily, remaining consistent by the end of the time frame.
To begin with, in 1960, agriculture peaked at around 63% of GDP; however, this figure dropped dramatically to about 14% by 2000. On the other hand, in 1960, the contribution of the services sector was only 18%. This number moderately surged for the first twenty years, reaching nearly 28% in 1980. After a significant rise, it climbed to approximately 63% by 2000.
In comparison, the industry sector was at its lowest point in 1960, at around 15%. With a slight increase of nearly 5%, the contribution rose above 20% in 1970. The industry sector then maintained a similar level for the next twenty years, holding steady at approximately 25% from 1980 to 2000.
