Overall, the number of visitors to all sites experienced a gradual rise. Notably, the coast remained the most visited place by tourists over the two decades.

At the beginning of the period, the figure for the coast of the country was the highest, attracting 40000 people. Although it declined slightly to about 35000 by 1992, the numbers increased remarkably during the period, reaching to 75000 in 2000. The mountains showed a similar pattern. The figure grew slowly by the next decade from starting at 20000 in 1987. Although it leveled off at 30000 between 1997 and 2002, in the next years it continued rising.

Similarly, the number of visitors of the lakes surged, surpassing that of the mountains. In 1987, it was the least preferred area with 10000 tourists. However, the numbers went up steeply to around 75000 in 2002. The following five years witnessed a significant drop, falling to 50000.
