The surveyed bar chart provides information about the distribution of research students in distinct academic disciplines during 2005.
As can be seen from the illustration, natural sciences surpassed all other contenders significantly, while mathematics attracted the smallest proportion of respondents.
Initially, the number of male students participating in engineering and programming showed equal enrollment figures of 150 students, which greatly overshadowed that of female students (approximately 90 in engineering and 70 in programming). Notably, the male enrollment in mathematics reached around 200, recording a proportion five times greater than that of their counterparts (about 40 students).
Conversely, the distribution in natural sciences between males and females was perfectly balanced at 200 research students. The number of females studying psychology recorded a figure not far behind that of males, approximating 200 males and 175 females. In contrast, the number of females taking part in linguistics showed a slightly larger when compared to that of males (around 110 and 85 students, respectively).
