The line graph gives information about the joblessness levels in two different countries namely the US and Japan from March 1993 to March 1999.
Overall, there was an increase in the rate of unemployed people in Japan, whereas the opposite was true in the cases of the US during the period shown.
At the beginning of the period, the percentage of jobless people in the US was about 7.0%, while the figure for Japan was significantly lower, at around 2.4%.
During the remaining period, Japan saw a significant increase in unemployment, while the US showed the opposite trend. In the first two years, the unemployment rate in the US dropped sharply, to only 5.4%, then remaining unchanged until and continued to decrease slightly to 4.1% in 1999. During the same period, Japan’s unemployment figures increased significantly and by early 1998 had overtaken the US and reached a peak of nearly 5%.
