Some individuals consider that setting fixed penalties is a great concept , for instance, murder should constantly cause a sentence to life. I partly agree with this opinion, because particular punishments have positive and negative aspects.
On the one hand, fixed penalties might contribute to an effective deterrent method. This means that violent offences will be accompanied by strictly cruel punishments and discourage people to commit a crime, facilitating the decrease of crimes. For example, if mugging or assault result in capital punishment, the person who is a potential killer will be more persuaded of the imperfection of delinquency.
On the other hand, particular penalties may incriminate someone in unfair way. This is about accidents where an innocent person can be charged by false testimony. For example, DNA can be planted at a scene to accuse someone who is not involved in the crime. Thus, fixed punishments may harm to innocent individuals. Yet, the justice system provide almost correct approaches, which minimize errors against unfair accusation.
To conclude, taking into account on both sides, I believe that all people are responsible for their behaviour and actions, and the offenders must be punished in suitable degree.
