The chart compares the proportion of males and females choosing different sports in an English town in 2012.
Overall, it can be seen from the graph that Tennis and Swimming were the most popular choice for both sexes, while Hockey was the least common. The biggest gender gap was recorded in the sports of Football.
Turning to the details, Football attracted the largest number of boys, three times higher than the proportion of females playing this sport, heading the list. Following that, the number of males enrolling in Tennis was 50, which was slightly higher than the figure for females. Similarly, Cycling was preferred by 35 males in comparison with only 20 females. Hockey was the least common in both genders, while boys was about 15 people, compared to only around 9 girls.
The pattern tends to reverse in regard to the other sports. The number of girls playing Badminton and Swimming were higher than boys. Badminton was chosen by almost 40 people, which was significantly higher than that of males, at around 30. Finally, just 40 people were allocated to boys, which was lower than girls, about 10 people.
