The number of Japanese tourists traveling abroad was around 5 million in 1985 and steadily increased to 11 million by 1990. In 1991, there was small decline in the Japanese traveling abroad to less than 11 million, but by 1992, it again increased to less than 12 million, and by 1995, there was a rise in the number of Japanese traveling abroad.
In 1985, the percentage of Japanese coming to Australia was 2%, which over time increased to around 5% by 1988. In 1989, there was a little decline in the percentage of Japanese tourists coming to Australia. By 1993, there was a constant increase in the percentage of Japanese coming to Australia, but by 1994, it again declined to around 6%.
Overall, there was almost a constant increase in the number of Japanese traveling outside Japan from 1985 to 1995. The percentage of Japanese coming to Australia showed a gradual increase from 1985 to 1994.
