The given bar chart illustrates the participation rates of males and females in various popular sports in the United Kingdom in 2008. Overall, it is clear that swimming attracted the most participants, whereas the opposite was true for jogging. Notably, the largest disparity between male and female players was observed in netball.
Approximately 15% of males participated in swimming, while females engaged at a rate one-third higher. In contrast, the proportion of males playing soccer was 24%, four times the participation rate for females. Similarly, although 10% of men opted for cricket, only 1% of women took part in this sport. In netball, 25% of females were recorded, whereas male interest was almost negligible.
Regarding other sports, tennis and basketball shared the same pattern, each attracting around 6% of participants. Table tennis saw nearly 9% of male involvement, with only 3% of their female counterparts participating. Likewise, other sports were more popular among men with an engagement rate of 20%, compared to 10% for women. Finally, jogging ranked as the least popular sport for both genders, at 3%.
