The given pie chart and line graph illustrate the numbers of Japanese tourists travelling overseas over a period of 11 years, starting from 1985, as well as the percentage of Japanese tourists visiting Australia.
Overall, it is clear that both the number of Japanese tourists travelling abroad and the proportion coming to Australia exhibited an upward trend throughout the period.
With regard to the pie chart, the figure for outbound Japanese increased consistently between 1985 and 1990, from approximately 5 million to roughly 15 million. At this point, it reached a plateau at around 12 million from 1990 to 1993, before increasing to a high of nearly 16 million in 1995.
Taking a closer look at the line graph, it can be observed that Australian’s share of Japanese tourist market soared dramatically from roughly 2% in 1985 to about 5% in 1988. Subsequently, the figure underwent a significant decline to above 4% in 1989, after which it rose to a peak of above 6% in 1993, before decreasing slightly to around 6% in 1994.
