To begin with , New York city’s population was approximately 80,000 in 1800 and rose significantly to around 3.5 million by mid-point of the period. Manhattan made up about three-fifths of the population in the year 1800 but its share fell to 54% by 1900 indicating notable decline. Although the city’s population peaked in 2000,Manhattan growth slowed considerably marking the lowest proportional increased among the districts.
In contrast, the other four districts started with very low population collectively 18,701 in 1800.Over the next century, this populations approximately doubled. By 2000,these districts together reached a combined peak of 6,471,089 residents, reflecting substantial
long-term growth.
