The line and bar graphs illustrate how many men’s contestants and women’s contestants took part in the Olympics for 88 years starting in 1924.
Overall, the number of participants who joined the Olympics witnessed an increase for 88 years. Concurrently, the proportion of men and all of the participants decreased for that period.
On that hand, people who joined the Olympics experienced a significant growth, by approximately 3000 people in 1924 and peaked at 11000 people in 2012.
Specifically, the percentages of women and total contestants dramatically rose. That percentage accounted for a little in 1924, by not over 100 participants. But in 1984, that proportion made up a fifth of all contestants who took part in the Olympics that year. And in 2012, the percentages tripled, from 1500 participants in 1984 to nearly 5000 participants in 2012.
