The chart illustrates the percentage of males and females choosing different science subjects, namely biology, physics and computer science in a university between 1992 and 2012.
Overall, males tended to engage in science subjects more than females. In addition, biology became the most attractive subject in both genders for 10 years.
In 1992, the percentage of males choosing science subjects stood at around 65% compared to the figure for females at 30%. Besides, Biology was the top list of subjects in 1992 at nearly 65%, far exceeding the figures for physics and computer science, with approximately 24% and 3%, respectively.
Moving into 2012, the gap between biology and other two subjects was narrow, however, biology also remained the highest percentage at 42%, followed by the proportion for computer science recorded a dramatic increase at about 25% and surpassed the figure for physics at 20%. In addition, the percentage of males continuously stood at 50%, which was higher than the figure for females at around 45%.
