The bar graphs compare the proportion of students in a university regarding their choice of subjects and gender in 1992 and 2012. Overall, although the percentage of female students increased over 20-year period, the share of male students was higher throughout the period. While the proportion of students choosing biology experienced a noticeable decrease, the reverse was true for computer science which increased significantly. Meanwhile the figure for students choosing physics almost remained stable.
Comparing students regarding their gender first, the proportion of male students declined considerably from around 65% in 1992 to 50% in 2012. By contrast, the share of female students rose from 30% in 1992 to nearly 45% in 2012, reaching its peak.
Turning to the remaining data, the percentage of students who study biology was the highest at 65% in 1992 and just above 40% in 2012. Meanwhile, the figure for students studying physics decreased negligibly from nearly 22% in 1992 to 20% in 2012. Lastly, the percentage of students choosing computer science saw significant growth from around 2% in 1992 to almost 24% in 2012, exceeding the physics.
