The maps illustrate the transformations of the Happy Valley shopping center over a span of three decades, from 1982 to 2012.
Overall, the shopping center underwent significant restructuring, evolving from a more irregular layout with various standalone stores to a more organized and rectangular design with improved accessibility and services.
In 1982, the Happy Valley shopping center featured an irregular layout that included a lake at its center and trees encircling the perimeter. Key elements included a coffee shop situated near the entrance, a centrally located food store, and adjacent to it were both a sports store and an electronics store. A furniture store was positioned to the right of the electronics store, while an entertainment area was located directly above the food store. Additional facilities included toilets positioned in the bottom right corner and an elevator providing access to the second floor next to the restrooms.
By 2012, notable changes were observed in the shopping center’s design and layout. The center adopted a rectangular shape, incorporating a parking lot at the bottom left, which became the main entrance. Toilets remained on the left side, while the furniture retail space was relocated above them. The sports store was now situated above the entrance, followed by the electronics store directly above it. The entertainment area was repositioned to the right of the electronics, with the food store located below, complemented by the addition of themed restaurants to the right. Furthermore, an elevator was strategically placed between the entertainment and food stores, with greenery now limited to the bottom exterior of the shopping complex.
