Nowadays, academic pressure on children is getting heavier than it used to. Some people insist that children should spend their leisure time doing academic activities, otherwise it would be a waste of time. Others argue they should use this time doing different things. I think, even though educational activities could possibly benefit children, they still need time off from school, putting their mind onto completely different topics.
First and foremost, educational activities aside from school could benefit children. Students could achieve higher grades and therefore a part of the academic pressure would be taken off from them. On top of that, if children’s leisure time includes additional education, their knowledge expands which broadens their horizon and career opportunities. I believe, if for example learning a foreign language is incorporated into a child’s free time, they would later in life spend less time studying it and save time, nonetheless, they stillshould be able to do things other than that.
On the other hand, because of the fact that children young experience a heavy workload and stress it could be hard for them to focus on education away from school. Furthermore, participating in sports programmes and or creative activities might help these young people to clear their mind and to strengthen their concentration. I am of the opinion that children should be able to spend their time doing things which bring them joy. Also, they should be allowed to develop as a person and not be put under a lot of pressure.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that children’s free time shouldn’t include too many educational activities, since schoolwork is demanding and pressuring them starting from a young age. Therefore, it is my opinion that it is not a waste of time, if they do active or creative things instead of studying.
