The bar chart demonstrates the plastic waste generation in various regions from 1995 to 2020. Although the amounts of plastic waste increased in all of the territories shown, the speeds of the growth were different.
In 1995, Asia was in the third place regarding the quantity of plastic waste at around 20 million tons. However, this continent experienced the fastest increase, reaching 100 million tons in 2020, which was almost three times as much as the number in South America (around 35 million tons in that year).
On the other hand, North America and Europe experienced also a significant but not so steep rise, going from around 25-30 million tons in 1995 to around 65-70 million tons in 2020, and the figures were quite similar in these two regions during the years.
South America was always in the last position, but the numbers also grew there, going from 10 to 35 million tons.
Overall, the quantity of plastic waste increased significantly wordwidely, even though the tendencies were slightly different in the regions shown.
