Band 7+: Immigration has a major impact on the society. What are the main reasons of immigration? To what consequences can it lead?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, immigration could be identified as one of the most significant global phenomena of the contemporary society. This essay will provide information about the probable causes of this event, including the possible consequences created by it.

To commence, as long as immigration might be divided in two categories, i.e. legal and illegal, each occurrence should be analysed separately. As far as illegal immigration is concerned, moving to another country may be considered a necessity, rather than a choice, in order to escape from dangerous and life-threatening situations, such as wars, crimes, poverty, famine, etc. Evidence for that appears in the vast number of migrants from Northern Africa to the coasts of Italy every year, or in the rising percentage of Mexicans crossing the board towards the United States. However, also legal immigration could be registered as a popular trend, particularly from Eastern to Western countries, e.g. from China to Northern America or Europe. In these cases, what explains the motive of these movements could be a lower rate of employment in the origin states and, generally speaking, a form of attractiveness from the arrival country, related to job and educational opportunities.

As can be expected, when hordes of individuals decide, for many reasons, to move to another state, both legally and illegally, they create inevitable developments and changing in the new country. For instance, a future scenario connected to this could be overpopulation and, as a consequence, a lack of primary goods which are enough for everyone who demands. Therefore, immigrants who are not in possession of a visa could be easily engaged in illegal activities or crimes, since their presence in that place is not allowed and they can not rely on a job for their personal or familiar maintenance.

In conclusion, immigration is a serious social problem, and it could be caused by poor and uncertain lifestyles displayed by countries of origin. Eventually, a higher level of migration could lead to overcrowded cities and the rise of criminality.
