Band 8+: Governments should spend money on railways rather than roads. To what extend do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

There is a prevailing perspective that governments should allocate greater financial resources to the development of railways rather than roads. From my standpoint, I concur with this viewpoint, as bolstering investments in railway infrastructure would yield substantial benefits for both the populace and the environment.

One compelling rationale for channeling funds towards the enhancement of railways is the prompt and secure conveyance of individuals to their destinations. By providing more high-speed and secure train services, there is an increased likelihood of stimulating broader usage of rail transport in daily commutes. Consequently, this would mitigate instances of congestion and reduce the likelihood of vehicular accidents on roads.

Furthermore, directing more financial resources towards railways would engender a surge in employment opportunities for the community. As the demand for rail transport escalates, the government would be compelled to develop additional train stations and expand railway networks. This expansion would create job prospects for individuals who are currently unemployed, thereby empowering them to sustain their livelihoods and meet the needs of their families.

From a holistic standpoint, trains are inherently more eco-friendly than automobiles. The latter are significant contributors to carbon emissions, which are major drivers of climate change. Thus, it would be highly advantageous for governments to allocate more funds to railway infrastructure. By doing so, authorities can alleviate concerns over the detrimental environmental impact caused by vehicular emissions.

In conclusion, I am of the opinion that governments should prioritize the improvement of railways, given the prospects for facilitating expedient and secure travel for the public, fostering economic growth through job creation, and promoting environmental sustainability. This strategic emphasis on railway development is poised to yield tangible benefits for society at large.
