In terms of education, some people believe that science should be involved in every single stage of everyone’s schooling, while others think that it should not. Even though considering an individual’s passions become a main reason for those disagreeing, in my opinion a critical thinking given by studying science outweighs them.
On the one hand, people who support the disappearing science in the educational sectors opine that not everyone might be suitable with such subjects. This is because since birth, every person has their own unique competence in many things outside science and they seem to enhance their capability without the help of science. For instance, in one talkshow program Susi Susanti, the former badminton athlete of Indonesia achieving gold medal in Barcelona cup 2003, said he had a good capability in badminton since kid and very bad in mathematics, so that her parents enrolled her to a sports boarding school having no subjects about science.
On the other hand, those who support the appearance of science cite that such knowledge is a basic thing being very essential especially to develop the way humans think based on science principles. Examples can be seen in mathematics which is very helpful in our daily activities, as simple as buying something in the supermarket. Had people had no capability in counting, they would have found it difficult to determine how much money they have to bring and what goods they need to buy related to their budget. Another simple example can be seen in washing dishes in the pantry. Without a knowledge of science, people will not realize that oil just might be cleaned with a soap since the polarity between water and oil is scientifically different. These examples show that science is a basic thing that plays the main role of every knowledge in this world. By removing science in everyone’s life meaning that the basic knowledge to lead the way people think will also disappear.
Overall, although focusing on people’s capability becomes the reason for disagreement, it seems to me that the appearance of science that determines the critical thinking of humans outweighs the argument.
