These two charts illustrate the number of tourists arrived to Australia in 1995 and 2005 and types of them. The countries compared are UK, US and Japan and two types considered are tourists staying at resorts and the backpackers.
It demonstrates a cosiderable hike in the number of tourists arrival in 2005. How ever, while the numbers are remarkably increased in UK and US vistors, number of tourists arrived from Japan has decreased. Also, it shows that number of backpackers shows a decling trend and the tourists staying at resorts has rise-up.
Among the three contries, US tourists has gone up from 500,000 to 1,500,000 while the UK tourists are also increased from 800,000 to 1,500,000. Even though the number of guests are increased in both countries, guests arrival from Japan has gone down from 1,500,000 to 1,000,000.
Following the number of arrivals, the tourists staying in the resorts are started from 1,500,00 in 1995, gone up to 2,500,000 by 2,000 and drasticaly reduced to 1,000,000 by 2005. On the other hand, backpackers has started from just over 250,000 and reached up to 1,000,000 by 2005 demonstrating a steady growth.
Overall, even though the number of tourists has increased the change of the type of arrivals may affect the overall income of the tourism industry in Australia.
