The picture demonstrates different phases of growth in the life cycle of the Salmon.
Overall, the developmental period of Salmon fish is about 7 stages, starting from Spawning adult salmon fish lay eggs in fresh water and ends with adult salmon fish which continue the cycle
To begin with, the cycle starts in fresh water when adult spawning salmon fish lay eggs. Afterwards, the adult Salmon die within 2 weeks. Apart from this, eggs takes about 3 months to hatch and form Alevin which feed on yolk sac for several weeks. Following this, Alevin fish develops into the Fry that is 5 to 10 weeks old. It appears as fish and is able to swim in this stage.
Furthermore, a Fry develops into a parr which is several month old forming ‘finger markings’ on it. At the age of 1 to 3 year, parr forms into smolt which is known by grouping with other smolt fish and heading out to sea. Additionally smolt grows in size and characterized as adult fish, spending 1 to 6 years in sea. Adult salmon ready to spawn and will die within 2 weeks after spawning.
