It is quite understandable to have a certain degree of anxiety caused by the scholarly path one’s following. In today’s competitive academic environment, the notion of success is dependent not only to having good grades but also to the extra-curricular activities that one’s taking a part of. Thus making it arguably the hardest era for a students to consider themselves as successful.

However, being carried away by the ambition of academic success to the extent that is threatening for one’s mental health must definitely be considered as a clear warning sign. Among the main reasons of this global issue, is the fact that the educational workload for each level of study gets heavier worldwide, thus making it harder than ever to manage for an average student.

Another striking reason for the ever-higher levels of stress and anxiety among students may be lack of hope towards a brighter future. Traditionally, being a good student was fundamentally tied to being rewarded in the future. Yet, the youth of post-covid era are far from being hopeful for better days to come, since they are the first generation in history of mankind that are more educated than their parents yet less prosperious compared to them. This, in turn, may be levering the hardships of academic goals as they may seem pointless to the students nowadays.

The feeling of being alone, or being abandoned, are among the hardest for us humans, especially for the younger ones. To overcome, or, at least reduce the negative consequences of academic ambitions, students should be provided with emotional support and proper guidance from their schools and families. Also, being equipped with coping mechanisms to establish a resillient attitude is key.
