The line graphs describe global population trends by proportion between 1950 and 2040. Overall, the first graph witness an upward trend in terms of future’s urbanization. Additionally, the rate of people over 65 years old is the only increasing figure, which rises steadily over the period.
Regarding the rate of people living in metropolitan in 1950, the figure was lower than those living in the rural areas, accounted for 40%. In addition, the proportion of urban population experienced a significant rise of 40% from 1950 to 2020. Moreover, the figure is predicted to increase to 90% in 2030 and remain unchanged in 2040. Finally, there are a considerable downward trend in terms of rural community, decreasing from 60% to 10% over the whole period. In 2040, the figure for urban society is anticipated to reach a high of 90%, which will be higher than those of the rural areas (10%).
As for the proportion of the elders, it was the lowest figure of the three kinds of age period in 1950, accounted for 20%; however, the figure increase significantly from 20% to nearly 45%, and the rate in the final year will be the highest figure over the period. In terms of other two age periods, there are a general downward trend, and the percentage of those aged under 15 is predicted to be the lowest figure in 2040 (25%).
