The bar chart compares the number of Australian students studying in five different countries – namely the USA, New Zealand, the UK, Germany, and Japan – between 2004 and 2006. In general, New Zealand and the United States consistently attracted large numbers of Australian students, while Germany and Japan had the fewest. Except for the UK, an increase in student numbers was observed across all countries over the three-year period.
In detail, the USA remained the top destination throughout the period, with student numbers rising from just over 2,600 in 2004 to around 2,900 by 2006. This was followed by New Zealand, where the number of students was slightly above 2,500 at the beginning and rose to approximately 2,700 in the final year. In contrast, the UK had fewer than 1,500 students in 2004; however, this figure increased to 1,600 the following year and then remained stable in 2006.
As for Germany and Japan, both countries recorded the lowest numbers of Australian students, with only slight changes over the period. In both cases, the figures were relatively stable and remained below 400, although minor increases were seen each year.
