The table depicts the number of Australian students educated abroad in five different countries: the USA, New Zealand, the UK, Germany, and Japan between 2004 and 2006.
Overall, the USA and New Zealand were the most popular destinations throughout the period compared with the others, while Japan and Germany accounted for significantly fewer students. In general, the number of students increased in most countries over the three years.
In detail, the USA demonstrated the highest number of Australian students, rising steadily from approximately 2000 in 2004, to around 2300 in 2005, and close to 2500 in 2006. A similar upward trend can be seen in New Zealand, where the figures grew from 2100 students in 2004 to around 2300 in 2005, and slightly over 2400 in 2006.
The UK ranked third, with numbers increasing moderately from about 1100 students in 2004, to approximately 1200 in 2005, and close to 1600 in 2006.
By contrast, Germany and Japan received far fewer students. Germany’s figures accounted for 200 students each year from 2004 to 2006. Meanwhile, Japan experienced slight fluctuations, with 100 students in both 2004 and 2005, and around 200 in 2006.
