Overall, viewing shifted markedly from conventional TVs and computers toward flat-screen TVs and portable devices like mobiles and tablets over the decade. Conventional TV usage plummeted, while flat-screen TVs rose to become the most popular alongside a sharp increase in mobile phone viewing.In 2009, conventional televisions dominated at 34%, far ahead of laptops (20%) and desktop computers (18%), together accounting for over 70% of viewing. Flat-screen TVs, mobile phones, and tablets were minority options at just 8%, 15%, and 5% respectively.
Over the decade, conventional TV usage plummeted to only 4%, becoming the least popular method, while flat-screen TVs surged to the top spot with 27%. Mobile phones climbed to 26%, closely trailing flat-screens, and tablets quadrupled to 19%; meanwhile, both laptops and desktops fell equally to 12%.
