The table illustrates a breakdown of changes in the proportion of participants engaging in seven different sports in an unspecified country of Europe between 1999 and 2009. Overall, while tennis, swimming golf, volleyball and yoga adhered to experiencing an upward trend, the reverse was true for football and basketball. Additionally, despite a downward trend, football maintained its leading position throughout the whole period in question.
Focusing first on rising trajectories, tennis attracted 25% of people in 1999, and this figure rose significantly to 30 % in 2004, before reaching its peak of 33% in the final year. As for swimming, it witnessed a small change, starting at 32% and following by a stagnation at 34% until 2009. Turning to golf and volleyball, the former recorded a mere 8%, which was the lowest percentage in the chart in the initial year. Then, it went up considerably to 13%, before growing to 17% in 2009. The latter shows 17% of players in 1999, and this quantity saw a marginal rise to fifth, before decreasing slightly to 18%. Lastly, yoga levelled off until 2004, settling at 10% and it improved minimally to 13%.
Regarding the falling trajectories, football led the pack with a whopping 57%, which was the most dominant figure in 1999. From this year onwards, it started reducing gradually, finishing at 48% in the last year. As far as basketball is concerned, the percentage of participants comprised 26%, before dropping to fourth. Finally, by 2009, this figure had witnessed a further decline to 24%.
