Getting married is a crucial milestone in a person’s life. It is believed by some that arranged marriage is better than love marriage, while others hold the view that marriage based on love is more appropriate. In my opinion, marriage founded on love provides long-term happiness and is better suited to modern society for the following reasons.
First and foremost, marriage based on love brings understanding and connection from the beginning. This motivation encourages two people willingly to sacrifice, sympathize, and work together to deal with difficulties in married life such as daily expenses or child rearing difficulties. Marriage based on love often comes from voluntariness and equality between two individuals. They love each other for who they truly are rather than being influenced by external pressure or family arrangements. This creates a respectful relationship where two people have equal voices and build a family based on understanding and acceptance of each other’s strengths and weaknesses.
On the contrary, it must be acknowledged that arranged marriage has certain benefits such as the approval and support from both families according to practical criteria like economic status, lifestyle, and culture. This may create initial stability in the early stages. However, the biggest weakness is the lack of love and understanding at first. Such marriages often start from unfamiliarity and both partners need to love each other after beginning to live together. This process is potentially risky. If both individuals could not nurture affection, the marriage would be boring, lack emotional connection, and exist solely because of responsibility, leading to long-term unhappiness. Meanwhile, marriage built on love serves as a strong catalyst for a stable and lasting relationship.
In conclusion, each form of marriage has its own pros and cons. However, I still hold the firm view that marriage rooted in love offers more opportunities for happiness and long-term stability. What truly matters is not only to get married for love, but also to learn how to nurture that love through understanding, respect, and responsibility to overcome every challenge of married life.
