The maps depict the transformation of Frenton over the period from 1990 to 2012.
Overall, the area underwent significant redevelopment, with the most noticeable changes involving the green spaces and smaller facilities with residential and commercial buildings. While several new facilities were introduced and structures disappeared, some parts remained largely unchanged.
Turning to the northern and western section, considerable redevelopment took place. The school in the north-west remained unchanged throughout the period. However, the playing fields with trees, which were previously located in the northern area, gave way to a block of flats. Similarly, the bank on the west side was transformed into a restaurant, while the trees in the south-west were demolished to make way for a technopark. Furthermore, the hospital, which was situated adjacent to the high street, was expanded considerably, whereas the library continued to occupy the same position.
Regarding the eastern and southern parts, substantial modification occurred. The cafe and park were redeveloped into a hotel and golf course. In contrast, the houses on the eastern edge were upgraded by a block of flats. In addition, the theatre was modernised into a cinema, while the shops were developed into a supermarket.
