The pie chart provides information about the factors that make English writing particularly challenging for learners who study English as a foreign language.
Overall, lack of vocabulary is by far the biggest challenge faced by learners, whereas fear of making mistakes accounts for the smallest percentage. In addition, difficulties related to ideas and social knowledge are more common than grammatical problems.
In terms of the most significant issues, nearly three-fifths of learners, at 59.38%, struggle with a lack of vocabulary. This figure is considerably higher than all other categories combined. Many learners may find it hard to express their opinions or develop their arguments due to their limited range of words and expressions. The second largest proportion, at 18.75%, belongs to lack of ideas and social knowledge. This indicates that some students are unable to generate relevant content or examples when completing writing tasks.
Regarding the remaining factors, grammar complexity represents 9.38% of the responses. Although grammar is often considered challenging in language learning, fewer learners see it as their main obstacle compared to vocabulary and idea generation. Meanwhile, only 6.25% of respondents report fear of making mistakes as the primary reason for poor writing skills, making it the least common issue shown in the chart.
